THE FLOWER AND BUTTERFLY

When we are reborn may we be together/forever one at every resting place/ forever one at each destination/                             If you are the flower, may I be the black bee who constantly savors your sweetness,                    If you, dear lady, are the sugar palm/may I be the gadung vine/so I might encircle you with my embrace,                           Thus my suffering may become the joy of one haughty from being the object of desire and painful longing. (Blossom of Longing, Ancient Verses of Love and Lament, translations from the Old Javanese by Thomas M Hunter, The Lontar Foundation, Jakarta)
